Our Corvette Story

My first Corvette drive was in 1964 – on Saturdays in Pontiac, IL. It was a professional bowlers car – it started as an Olds Starfire, then became a 63 Dark Blue 340 / 4 speed. After washing it, I got to drive it the rest of the afternoon. Fast forward about 35 years and we bought a 79 – L82 / 4 speed, followed by an 85 4+3, followed by another 79 – L82 / 4 speed car. That car was sold to a buyer in Puerto Rico – his wife wanted a RED Corvette for her birthday. It took a few years but we bought our 2000 Dark Bowling Green Metallic convertible 4 years ago. I bought the car near Louisville, KY and my first drive in the car was to the Corvette Plant in Bowling Green. It’s been a great ride.

Our Story

Penny and I met in the spring of 1969 and were married in December 1969. For the first 11 years after college I was a high school football coach / athletic director. Penny initially worked as a receptionist in a Dr’s office – and then Jeff was born. My coaching saw us move to 3 different high schools – all in Illinois. My last teaching job at Quincy High School ended when a tax referendum failed, and all the non-tenure teachers were “riffed.” I went to work for County Insurance at that time and remained with them – moving into management over the next several years. Our daughter Gina was born in Quincy. I attended Millikin University in Decatur, IL and played football and baseball. I was honored to be inducted into Millikin’s Athletic Hall of Fame in 2010. Our son Jeff is a surgeon living in Denver. Our daughter, Gina, is a teacher / administrator at Steamboat Mountain School in Steamboat. We have 2 grandsons.

Skills

I was in the insurance industry for 38 years. My last several years, I spent most of my time in the Sale & Service of Life & Health business. We were fortunate that Penny was able to stay home with our children, and after they moved on, get involved in volunteer projects.

Hobbies/Special Interests

I am fortunate to still be able to ski and play golf. We enjoy walking and I enjoy the many bike trails in the Denver area. I can sort of play the guitar – Penny spends as much time as possible with our grandson, helping our son’s family. For several years I was an instrument  rated private pilot, but have become inactive as a pilot since retirement. We enjoy traveling as time & other commitments allow.
